An Interview and Two Reviews!

Hi, folks!

So I have a trio of neat media pieces surrounding the Tarot of Bones! The first is an interview that I had sworn I had posted, and apparently hadn’t. This has been a ridiculously busy year so I’ve had a few things slip off my radar despite my best efforts. The interview is with Raushanna of Pagan Pages, who asked some really good questions! You can read it here: http://paganpages.org/content/2018/03/interview-with-author-artist-lupa/

I also have two great reviews! One is from Madame Hearth Witch on Tumblr, and you can check it out at http://madamehearthwitch.tumblr.com/post/175993226001/tarot-of-bones.

The other review is over at http://circusfreakgirl.blogspot.com/2018/11/tarot-of-bones-reviewshowcase-hannabal.html – it’s very image-heavy, but worth it!

Thank you to all three amazing writers; I so appreciate the attention you’ve given to my work <3

Official Schedule for the Tarot of Bones Art Exhibition

You’ve been waiting for it since before the Tarot of Bones was released, and the time is finally nigh! On July 21 and 22, 2018, the Raven’s Wing Magical Co. in Portland, OR will be host to the only exhibition ever featuring all eighty original assemblages from the Tarot of Bones. The public is invited to come view the works from 12pm to 8pm both days, and yes they will be available for purchase, along with the Tarot of Bones deck and book. I’ll also be teaching two workshops and offering readings all weekend, so there’s plenty going on! There’s a Facebook event page at http://www.facebook.com/events/1008625409302620/

Here are details for some of the great happenings over the weekend:

Saturday, July 21 Workshop, 1pm – 2pm: What is the Tarot of Bones? What inspired artist and author Lupa to create this uniquely nature-themed divination set? Join us as we learn about the creation of the Tarot of Bones, from concept and design to artistry to self-publishing and more! You’ll learn about the bones and other materials involved, why she chose certain animals and bones for each card, and how she wove messages from nature with traditional tarot symbolism. And you’ll have plenty of time to ask questions, too! Free to the public.

Saturday July 21, 6pm – 8pm: Artist’s Reception: Join Lupa for an artist’s reception! Come meet the artist and author who created the Tarot of Bones, partake of the provided food and drink, and maybe even win a door prize! Free to the public.

Sunday, July 22 Workshop, 1pm – 3pm: Using the Tarot of Bones: Whether you are a new tarot reader or have many years of experience, come learn how to get to know your Tarot of Bones deck and book! In this exclusive workshop, artist and author Lupa will help you learn how to balance the non-human elements of the Tarot of Bones with the human-centered symbolism of traditional tarot, use the spreads created especially for this set, use both science and spirituality to deepen your understanding of the cards and your readings with them, and more! You will need the Tarot of Bones deck and book. $35 for the class alone, $85 for the deck and book plus class. Please contact the Raven’s Wing Magical Co. at (503) 946-8951 to register for this workshop.

Tarot of Bones Readings: Lupa will be available to read the Tarot of Bones cards for clients on Saturday, July 21 from 12pm to 1pm and 3pm – 5pm, and Sunday, July 22 from 12pm to 1pm and 4pm – 8pm. Please contact the Raven’s Wing Magical Co. at (503) 946-8951 to register for a reading slot.

It’s Finally Happening!

I have some excellent news! I have been in talks with The Raven’s Wing, a wonderfully magickal shop in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, about hosting the one and only exhibit of all eighty Tarot of Bones original assemblages! We’re looking at one of the last two weekends of this upcoming July, and we’ll have more details once we’ve settled on the exact dates. Here’s what we’re planning:

–All of the assemblages will be on display to the public, free of charge, for the entire weekend that we choose.

–The assemblages will be for sale! Yes, this will be THE first chance since the IndieGoGo campaigns to purchase one of the original art pieces for the Tarot of Bones. (They’ll go for sale online only after the show is done.)

–There’ll be workshops taught by yours truly, to include both a free beginner’s class on the basics of the Tarot of Bones (where it came from, why and how I created it, the very basics of using it) and a more in-depth paid class on how to get the most out of your Tarot of Bones set.

–You can also schedule a Tarot of Bones reading with me!

Sound like fun? I think so! And again, this will be the ONLY time all eighty assemblages will be on public display together. As soon as we settle on which of the last two weekends in July we’re going with, you can mark your calendar.

The Vulture Culture 101 IndieGoGo Campaign is Live!

(Apologies for the brief break in daily readings; since many of my readers here were also backers of the Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo campaigns, I thought some of you may also be interested in this one. I’ll post today’s Daily Draw later this afternoon. Thank you!)

The Vulture Culture 101 IndieGoGo Campaign is officially live at http://igg.me/at/vultureculture101!

What compels me and many other people to fill our homes with the preserved remains of animals, and how can you join in the fun? Vulture Culture 101: A Book For People Who Like Dead Things explores the modern revival in acquiring, preserving and creating art with these natural specimens. Written by author and artist Lupa, this is the first full-length guide to Vulture Culture, a subculture that in recent years has grown up around the appreciation of hides, bones and other animal specimens.
Want to help Vulture Culture 101 become a reality AND get your copy of the book at the lowest price ever? Want to get neat perks like my other books and art made from hides and bones? Want to help a self-employed author and artist create a valuable resource both for members of the V.ulture Culture, and people who are just curious about what it’s all about?
Back the Vulture Culture 101 campaign today at http://igg.me/at/vultureculture101! We’re already well on our way, and early bird specials are going fast. Even if you can’t back the campaign right this moment, please send the campaign to anyone you feel may be interested, and thank you for your support 🙂

Coming Soon: The Vulture Culture 101 IndieGoGo Campaign!

I am excited to announce that the official IndieGoGo campaign for my next book, Vulture Culture 101: A Book For People Who Like Dead Things, will launch on February 6, 2018! More than a book on taxidermy or bone identification, Vulture Culture 101 is a guidebook to the subculture surrounding the preparation, collection and appreciation of hides, bones and other specimens. It’s suitable for both beginners and experienced Vultures and may even appeal to those who are just curious about us and our collections.

The full IndieGoGo campaign won’t be launched til the 6th, but you can get a taste of what will be included at the prelaunch page here. And you can sign up for an email reminder to be sent to you when the campaign officially starts!

As with my wildly successful IndieGoGo campaigns for The Tarot of Bones, this campaign will help me to fund attendant costs for the book, such as paying guest writers for how-to essays on topics like hide tanning and bone cleaning, as well as the cost of printing physical books and having them shipped to me. Anything left over after that will help me cover my bills and other expenses as I finish up the last bit of writing, editing, layout and other work that remains before projected publication in Summer 2018.

I will, of course, make an announcement when the campaign itself goes live, but for now check out the prelaunch page for a taste of what’s to come! And, as always, thank you for your ongoing support.

Buy the Tarot of Bones, Get Skull Scrying Free!

So I reordered fifty copies of my self-published booklet, Skull Scrying: Animal Skulls in Divinatory Trance, and they just arrived on my doorstep. I’d like to see them go to some good new homes, so I’m running a limited-time offer! If you buy The Tarot of Bones deck and book set here on my website between now and the end of Saturday, December 16, I’ll send you a copy of Skull Scrying at no additional cost.

This ONLY applies to orders of the deck AND the book, and only those made from the Tarot of Bones website, not Etsy or eBay or Amazon. If you just want to buy a paperback or ebook copy of Skull Scrying, you can do so over here.
